Outboard motor bracket pin.

Hi all,

I need a new spring loaded pin that secures the O/B motor

bracket in the up or down position. Its made of nylon ?

and has a stainless steel pin. Can someone help me with a

brand name and/or part number and where they might be

sold. I found a plastic version here in a Paynesville chandlery

but it lasted about 10 mins before breaking.

Cheers

I renewed mine with some brass barrel bolts
Seems stronger the those originally fitted if you can put up with the verdigris ,just keep a bit of lanolin on them theyll last forever ..!! ;-)
Ps a bit of spongy material between the mount and the stop fixes the slop .

I replaced the barrel bolts some time ago with spring-loaded pins which I got from Boatworks – Peter Welch – in Seaford. I broke one and got some replacements at Discount Seamart in Elizabeth St. Melbourne. These came with extra plates which was the bit I broke when I hit something in shallow water!!!

PS. The pins are stainless and the backing plates seem to be cast something – not nylon/plastic…

Hi Greg, I’ll try your suggestion if i can’t find the original pins. My setup has a cord connected, and when pulled it pulls the 2 pins out so the bracket (motor) can be lowered or raised and saves having to reach down to the pins, or barrel bolts if fitted.
Hi Marg, Thanks I’ll give Boatworks a call. I met Peter years ago in Duck Arm but haven’t seen him for a while.

I replaced the pins with barrel bolts and used a setup deployed by Brent (Bribie Isalnd) on his Noelex. It’s brilliant. It involves a pulley to raise and lower the engine – in any position – simply brilliant. The bolts are there for trailering (to avoid the engine bobbing) and if you want them for reversing.
